Getting prepared to go somewhere on your own!
Anyone who has ever been 16 knows that you probably can’t wait to go somewhere on your own! Like most sixteen-year-olds, you are probably imagining what it will feel like to climb behind the wheel and drive where you want to go (without a parent by your side).
If this sounds like you, heed these words of advice. Getting somewhere on your own may involve shifting into reverse and actually easing out of the driveway a few times without realizing that you forgot to take off the emergency brake.
No, it doesn’t have to mean that you’re perfect. But, if you’re going anywhere other than directly to the poor house (because you spend to much on gasoline, items at the local shopping mall or at a local fast food joint), remember to shift into high gear by first learning how to spend and save money wisely. Then, after proving to your parents that you have sound money management skills, show that you are capable of mapping out your future by first setting goals and then asking for help making smart financial decisions.
In all of your actions, be prepared to be appreciative and pleased whenever someone is willing to grant special privileges to you!
